New weight regulations

New international regulations are being implemented which have a huge effect on ALL exporters from the UK from 1st July 2016.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) have released their update Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) regulations which state that every container due for export at sea to have a Verified Gross Mass (VGM) which has been given to the Shipping Lines and port terminals prior to loading on a vessel.

The Regulations

The regulations state that the duty is on the SHIPPER to supply the VGM regardless of who has packed the container. Shipping Lines will be prohibited from allowing any container to sail without the VGM.

Further information can be found at the World Shipping Council’s website.
